Vietnam is making it easier for travelers to visit with the launch of a new and improved e-Visa portal on November 11, 2024. This updated platform is designed to simplify the visa application process, making it more user-friendly for applicants from around the world.
What is an E-Visa?
An e-Visa is an electronic visa that allows travelers to get approval to enter Vietnam before they arrive. Since its introduction in 2017, the e-Visa system has become a popular and quicker alternative to traditional visa processes.
New and Improved E-Visa Portal
Vietnam’s e-Visa system has been enhanced to make applying for a visa faster and easier. The new portal, launching on November 11, 2024, will offer a smoother application experience with updated features for convenience.
You can access the new e-Visa portal through the following links:
- evisa.gov.vn
- evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn (Existing Portal)
- thithucdientu.gov.vn (Alternative URL)
How to Apply for Vietnam’s E-Visa
To apply for the e-Visa, applicants need to upload a photo of their passport and the passport’s information page. The system will automatically match the uploaded photo with the passport details, helping to reduce mistakes in the application.
Applicants can then review their personal information, passport details, travel plans, and select the type of visa they need. This automated process makes the application quicker and easier.
Visa Types and Duration
Since August 2023, citizens from all countries can apply for Vietnam’s e-Visa. There are two visa options:
- Single-entry Visa (US$25): Allows one entry to Vietnam during the visa’s validity.
- Multiple-entry Visa (US$50): Allows multiple entries within the validity period.
The e-Visa duration has been extended from 30 days to 90 days, giving travelers more time to explore Vietnam.
Entry Points for E-Visa Holders
E-Visa holders can enter Vietnam through 42 designated entry points, including major airports, seaports, and land border crossings. Some key entry points include:
- Airports: Hanoi Noi Bai, Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc.
- Seaports: Cam Pha, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nha Trang.
- Land Crossings: Border points with Laos, Cambodia, and China, like Huu Nghi and Moc Bai.
Visa-Free Entry
In addition to the e-Visa, Vietnam also offers visa-free entry for citizens of 27 countries for stays ranging from 14 to 90 days. Since mid-2023, citizens of 13 countries, including France, Germany, Japan, and the UK, can stay visa-free for up to 45 days.
Vietnam’s Growing Tourism
Vietnam’s tourism industry is booming. In 2024, the country welcomed over 14.1 million international visitors in just the first 10 months. By the end of the year, Vietnam is expected to reach its goal of 17 to 18 million visitors.
