The Guru Kashi University has been founded by Balaji Education Trust, Talwandi Sabo which was established in 1997 and became the foundation stone for education in this region. The first college, Guru Gobind Singh Polytechnic was established in 1998 and later Graduate and Post graduate programmes were added. In 2001,
Guru Gobind Singh College of Engineering & Technology was established, followed by Guru Gobind Singh College of Education in 2005.
In 2006, GGS Institute of IT and Research and the GGS College of Nursing came into existence. In 2011, Guru Kashi University was established by the Punjab Act No. 37 of 2011. Since then, the university is growing and catering the needs of local, national and global area in the lap of the natural beauty.
Being located in the rural area, the university caters to the demands of agriculture and has started various programmes under College of Agriculture. It has double accreditation i.e., from ICAR and PCAR. The university has also created links with peer universities and institutions at local, national and international level to enhance research and teaching exposure.
The university is offering 50+ programmes at undergraduate, graduate and doctorate level and is following Choice Based Credit System. The curriculum is Learning Outcome based at all levels and Multiple Entry and Exist system has been adopted. Following e governance is another administrative facilitator system of the university.

| All students should reach the classroom on time and shall not leave the class without the permission of the teacher. |
| If a student makes a false declaration or conceals any information in the Admission, his/her admission to the Institute shall stand cancelled without any notice as soon as the false declaration or concealed information is detected. The case may be handed over to the police. |
| The behaviour of the students, both within and outside the institute premises should be decent and befitting to a professional institution. |
| Students must park their vehicles only in the space allotted. |
| Students found guilty of ragging will be dismissed from the institute as per the Supreme Court ruling. |
| Students are prohibited to bring or use mobile phones within the campus. |
| This, being an eco–friendly campus, plastic or other trash should not be thrown inside the institute or in the premises. |
| Once the fee is deposited, it will not be refunded, transferred or adjusted in any other account. If a student leaves the course in mid-term, he/she will be liable to pay the balance of fee for the whole course. |
| The Institute campus is a no–smoking/ alcohol-free zone. |
| Students are not allowed to put posters or liter in the campus. |
| No visitors are allowed to meet students during the institute hours. |
| Pets are not allowed in the campus. |
